Temptation is Everywhere

I don’t know about you, but for me it seems like everytime I try to cut back on the junk food, there suddenly becomes an abundance of free food everywhere I look.  And not just any free food, really tasty free food. When you are following a healthy diet, temptation is everywhere, and the hardest part is finding the self-control to walk away.

I am a carb-oholic.  I love bread, pasta, rice, anything starchy or doughy.  However, they do NOT love me.  As with most women, I cannot lose a single ounce of fat if I keep these things in my diet.  Plus, eating them usually makes me feel tired, groggy, and nauseous.  Even though I try to avoid them, they are still my biggest weaknesses.  I love pizza.  I love soft pretzels.  I love cake.

So last week, for whatever reason, seemed to be the week from free-food-hell in our faculty lounge.  Monday and Thursday, there was free pizza, and I am talking pizzeria pizza, not Dominos.  Tuesday, there were soft pretzels.  And of course on Wednesday… you guessed it, cake.  Monday and Thursday were especially tough.  Seeing the rest of the teachers in the lounge eating piping hot cheese pizza…and pulling my chicken breast and spinach salad out of the fridge was not the easiest.  I grabbed it quickly, and got the heck out of there before the smell of bubbling cheese could hit my nose.

It was a choice that I had to make, and I had to make the right one.  I could have eaten that pizza.  There was nothing to stop me.  But the anguish I would have had to deal with afterwards, when I realized that I threw all my goals out the window for some bread, sauce, and cheese, would have been worse than the pleasure I would have gotten from eating the pizza.

I found a great quote on a fitness site I was reading the other day.  It said, “nothing tastes as good as lean and sexy feels.”  It’s true.  What feels better, eating junk, or reaching goals and having the hot body you want?

Yes, temptation is everywhere.  There will always be free food.  There will always be somebody trying to convince you to eat it.  And if you are like me, it will probably pop up as soon as you buckle down on your diet.  Just remember your goals, because at the end of the day, what do you really want?  Your goals, or free pizza?

Happy training,

-Lisa
